Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer among women? In honor of February being "American Heart Month", the Downtown Farmington merchants would like to help Botsford Hospital continue educating the community on the warning signs and dangers of heart disease. You can help us raise money for Botsford's Cardiac Unit this weekend just by shopping Downtown Farmington. Merchants will be donating 5% of your purchase to Botsford when you mention the American Heart Association or Botsford Hospital at the time of your sale. Wear red, shop Farmington, and help a local hospital fight this disease. (The merchants listed above and Canary International and Tre Sorelle will be participating in this awesome fund raising event).
In the meantime, the American Heart Association recommends the following "quick tips" for a healthier diet:
1. Add whole grains into your diet by eating whole grain cereals, cereal bars, and breads
2. When choosing meats, look for "lean" or "extra lean" and always go for skinless chicken
3. Boost your intake of nutrient-packed fruits and vegetables with easy solutions like bagged salads and pre-cut veggies and dried fruits
4. Look for the American Heart Association's heart-check mark on groceries. It is a quick indicator that a food meets the AHA's criteria for fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and positive nutrients
While in Farmington this Saturday, catch a FREE showing of "Sleepless in Seattle" at 1:30 p.m. at the Civic Theatre. Tickets for this show WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY AT THE FOLLOWING FARMINGTON MERCHANTS (look for the red heart balloons in front of the store):
