"It's Happening"! The much anticipated Streetscape Project has begun in Downtown Farmington. Help the community celebrate by attending these two great events.

The Farmington Streetscape Video II is filled with familiar Farmington faces and information regarding the Project. Join us for a wonderful evening. After the movie there is an AfterGlow at Gala. There is no charge for admission to the movie. Please R.S.V.P. to the DDA office at 248-473-7276. You must have a ticket (you will receive one at the door to the Civic) to attend the AfterGlow at Gala.

We had a great time at our recent "Bow Making Class". I recently visited Carrie's house and she had her newly made bows on wreaths, plants, and even in her adorable daughter's hair! We will have more classes in the future so keep on checking our blog for the latest Eclectic Elegance news.

Speaking of news.....

We are happy to announce that Eclectic Elegance will be at the Downtown Farmington's Farmers Market starting Saturday, May 9! Look for our tent (no, it isn't purple) filled with the "Made in Michigan" products you love. We will have a selection of products from our great state like: Cherry Republic, Cottage Popcorn, Sanders, Germack, Vernors, and Hanover Chocolate. Of course we will have our incredible gift arrangements for sale. The Market opens at 9:00 a.m. and is full of fresh flowers, fruits, and vegetables. In fact, May 9 is the opening day of the Market and the day before Mother's Day. You can grab a beautiful gift basket from Eclectic Elegance, buy your flowers for your yard, and have a great day in Farmington all at once! Now that is one stop shopping! We would love to see you there. Stop by and say "Hello". We have missed being in Farmington and look forward to "catching up" with all of our friends.

Take a look at these customized gift arrangements. We just completed an order for a client's rehearsal dinner and the theme was "Motown". Well, you should know by now that we specialize in Michigan made products! We used 40 vinyl records and customized each record label with a famous Motown song, the bride and groom's name, and their wedding date. All the food you see is made right here in the Motor City. Not only will these beauties be used as the centerpieces; but after the party, hotel guests will take them and have a taste of Detroit.

Happy Spring! A much deserved spring, by the way.

We would first like to thank you once again for all of your support and kind words. The Purple Building was so much more than just bricks and mortar... it was a home. It was where we made friends with so many people. We learned so many things about business and ourselves that the experience was "priceless". Thank you.

Eclectic Elegance isn't housed in the Purple Building anymore but our journey continues...

As you can see by the picture, we have Easter baskets ready for Peter Cottontail. If you are going to brunch on Easter Sunday, April 12, remember to take your hostess a gift from Eclectic Elegance. Holly Days at Eclectic Elegance

Friday, December 12, will be a festive evening at Eclectic Elegance. Local potter, Dave Albrecht and watercolorist, Kathleen Spellman will be here for a special showing of their artwork. This is a great opportunity to meet the artists. Our special show begins at 6 p.m. Join us for an evening of food, drink, friends, and beautiful works of art.

Once you have checked off your list with all of the great gifts from Eclectic Elegance, you can walk down the block and visit the Gift Wrap Station. For a small donation, you can have your gifts wrapped while you wait! As you stroll the beautifully lit streets of Farmington, watch for the Roaming Reindeer. Take a look at our winner of the UglyDoll Photo contest. "Batty" Maddie had fun dressing up like her favorite UglyDoll, Ice Bat. Even Dad helped out so Maddie could "hang" with her plush friend. Kayla, our runner up, collected all of her UglyDolls and posed with them on her outdoor play set. Kayla's picture is in our front window. Congrats to our UglyDoll Drawing contest winner, Asel, and runner up Lisa. Both of these young artists' drawings can also be found in our window.

Thanks to all of you who participated in Ugly October. We had a great response and we loved each participant's enthusiasm and creativity. If you would like your drawing or photograph please stop on by the purple building by Thursday, November 20.

Our favorite master gardener, Heidi Cook, will be here Thursday, September 18 to teach us how to create a masterpiece like the one pictured! Heidi, owner of Liberty Street Gardens, will walk us through the steps in planting a beautiful fall outdoor container arrangement. You will then be able to test out your green thumb by choosing from an incredible array of autumn flowers and plants. The cost of the class is $45 and includes soil, fertilizer, and plants. Please bring a pot 12" in diameter or less. There will be additional costs for pots larger than 12" in diameter or multiple pots. The class begins at 7:00 p.m. and a $20 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. Take a look at these young budding artists! Dave Albrecht taught these youngsters the basics of ceramics last Wednesday and everyone had a great time. Pinch and coil pots, animal sculptures, and whimsical plaques were just a few of the masterpieces created. Thanks to all of the talented artists who participated. Way to go!

Don't forget that Farmington is always bustling with activities. Bring a blanket to the Pavilion and sit back and enjoy a Friday Night Concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Saturday Farmers Market offers locally grown fresh vegetables, fruits, and flowers along with talented artisans. You can catch a flick at the historic Civic Theatre and grab dessert at one of Farmington's lovely restaurants or ice cream parlors. Santa Claus came to town!

As artisans and crafters from around the country make their way into town and begin setting up shop next Thursday for the annual Farmington Founders Festival, downtown merchants will already be in full swing with extended hours and special promotions in celebration of festival week.

Downtown will be buzzing all week with merchants, artists, volunteers, crafters and vendors getting ready for the busy weekend. It's a great time for the Downtown Farmington merchants who "keep shop" on Main Street year-round to get a jump on the festivities and showcase their stuff!

In addition to 10 percent off already reduced holiday merchandise, shoppers spending $25.00 or more at Eclectic Elegance will receive a $5.00 gift card toward a future purchase. Come on in and visit the Purple Building!

Many downtown shops will also have special pre-festival events or offers from Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 17, including Focal Point , J's Jewelry, M. Mazzoni Jewelers, Majestic Design, Music Go Round , Scrappin' and Stampin' , Tre Sorelle and Victorian Lace Elegance.

Bead Bohemia will offer a free "Soaring Sparrow" earring kit with a $25.00 purchase. Bellis Therapeutic Spa will have chair massages and daily raffles for free spa services. Along with 75 percent off summer clearance apparel and 20 percent off new fall arrivals, Clothes Encounters will offer percentage-off certificates for future purchases.

Edible Arrangements will have free fruit samples throughout town. Diners at Gala will receive a free appetizer with drink purchase (non-alcoholic beverages excluded and offer must be mentioned to receive special). Merle Norman will offer discounts on make-up and free gifts with purchases.

"It's a great idea," said Becky Burns, co-owner of Sunflour Bakehaus (at the historic Farmington Bakery), of the pre-Founders Festival activities. Beginning Tuesday, July 15 and through the festival, the bakery will have extended hours. "It's such a fun time of year to be in Farmington. There's an air of excitement throughout town as everyone gears up for the festival. Hopefully, this will get more people into town earlier in the week to join us in that excitement."

The Farmington Founders Festival Celebration begins this Monday, July 14! Don't forget that a whole week's worth of activities is planned including: Eclectic Elegance's Artisans Off The Avenue, Alley Regalley, Crafters' Row, and the Battle of the Bands. Of course, these fine artists always have their work for sale at your favorite Purple Building!

3. Our third annual "Children's Ceramic Class" will once again be taught by Dave. This two part class begins Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. and continues the following Wednesday, July 30. Both classes are two hours long and during the instruction, children will be creating their own masterpieces. This class is geared for kids 6 years and older. Eclectic Elegance's favorite local potter, Dave Albrecht, will be teaching a TWO part children's ceramic class on Wednesday, July 23 AND Wednesday, July 30. Both two hour classes begin at 10:00 a.m. and are designed for children six years and older. During the first class, Dave will teach the basics of clay and demonstrate different techniques. The young artists will then be able to take what they have learned from Dave and CREATE! Dave will take home the masterpieces and fire the clay. On Wednesday, July 30, the children will glaze their work and once again Dave will fire the artwork. The completed pottery will be available for pickup at Eclectic Elegance in August. All materials are supplied and the cost for this TWO part class is $50.00. A $20.00 non-refundable deposit is required. Eclectic Elegance strongly supports the proposed Streetscape plan for Downtown Farmington. As you can see by the rendering, Streetscape calls for wider and safer sidewalks, outdoor seating, and beautiful landscape. The Purple Building is literally in the center of Downtown Farmington and we look forward to the changes and the incredible possibilities the improvements will bring! The Streetscape will be on the August 5 ballot and we urge all Farmington residents to vote "YES"!!!! Tea for YOU! We would like to thank all of you who stopped in for a "spot" of tea during our recent tea party. Thanks to all who came out to Joey's Comedy Club last Monday for our fundraiser to help the Mullett family! We all shared in some laughs and it was AWESOME to see the incredible support from family and friends. Thanks to all of you, $11,000 has been raised as of today! YES!!!!!

Eclectic Elegance and 12 other Farmington merchants will be open until 8:00 p.m. The Purple Building will be showing off two of our favorite Downtown Farmington "Jewels" during the special evening. Kathy Spellman, watercolorist and Dave Albrecht, potter will be here along with their incredible and original artwork. The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. and this is a great chance to meet the artist while viewing their work. We will have appetizers, beverages, and in-store specials.

Also beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, you will receive a key with every $25 purchase from one of 13 stores located in Downtown Farmington. Only 1000 keys will be available, five of which open a treasure chest located at Scrappin' and Stampin'. If you receive one of the lucky keys, you will win a Farmington prize package valued at $400.00! We have a very busy April planned at Eclectic Elegance- NO FOOLIN'!

The fun begins this Thursday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m. when we host a Southern Living At Home Party. The spring catalog is filled with new products along with tried and true best sellers. No matter the style of your home or the type of entertaining you do, Southern Living has great products to accent your abode or help you throw the perfect party. We will have a large sampling of the high quality home goods for you to see up close. Also, Southern Living products make great gifts for anyone on your list and with Mother's Day around the corner, now is the time to place your order! Come on in and join us this Thursday beginning at 7:00 p.m. Bring a friend and receive a special treat!

Don't forget this Friday is your chance to see Dana dressed like a princess- tiara and all! Eclectic Elegance will be at the Costick Center's Princess and Super Heroes Fantasy Fun Night. Heidi Cook and Liberty Street Gardens will be back on Thursday, April 24 to teach us how to plant (and keep alive) a beautiful outdoor spring container. This is a great way to bring cheer to your patio or porch. The $45 fee includes soil, fertilizer, and gorgeous flowers and plants. Please bring a pot no larger than 12" in diameter. It may not feel like spring outside, but it is bright and cheery in Downtown Farmington's favorite Purple Building! We have fresh, new products throughout the store including the very popular "Menus and Music", a brand new UglyDoll named "Poe", and a wider selection of "Little Fish" greeting cards.

"Menus and Music" is a great hostess, office, or birthday gift. The beautifully packaged item contains easy gourmet recipes with cook's tips, a food photo on each card, a shopping and pantry list for every recipe, a built-in recipe easel, laminated recipe cards, AND a music CD that makes cooking and entertaining fun. We recently read an inspiring editorial in the February 2008 "Better Homes and Gardens". It struck both of us as one of those "Yes" moments in life where things seem clearer and you slow down to actually take time to think of YOURSELF! Actually take the time to be thankful for all there is in your life, to appreciate what you do AND don't have. Here is an excerpt from Gayle Goodson Butler's article.

"By the time February arrives each year, I'm already counting the days until the start of spring. And this year, there is one extra day to count: Friday, February 29, the Leap Day in Leap Year 2008.

Time found: That's an occasion just waiting to be celebrated. So often, I catch myself saying 'If I just had one free day, I'd...' Try a workshop. Schedule a yoga session. Volunteer for a campaign. Have an unhurried lunch with someone I'd like to know better.

Now that I've got that extra day, I'm following through. On February's fifth Friday, I'm taking the day off to do one out-of-the-ordinary thing that will make my life better or broader- a little leap forward, you might say. I don't yet know what that will be, but I like thinking of the possibilities and where they might lead. Little leaps, I've found, are often the start of bigger things.... What little leap have you taken recently that's made your life better or led you in new directions?"

Merchants will be donating 5% of your purchase to Botsford when you mention the American Heart Association or Botsford Hospital at the time of your sale. In the meantime, the American Heart Association recommends the following "quick tips" for a healthier diet:
1. Add whole grains into your diet by eating whole grain cereals, cereal bars, and breads
2. When choosing meats, look for "lean" or "extra lean" and always go for skinless chicken
3. Boost your intake of nutrient-packed fruits and vegetables with easy solutions like bagged salads and pre-cut veggies and dried fruits

We are honored to receive this recognition for the" individual or company that best promotes the Chamber's message... and promotes the Chamber in the larger community".

Beginning February 14th and running through February 29th (yep, it's Leap Year), when you spend $25.00 at a participating Downtown merchant, you will receive an entry form for a Downtown Farmington Prize Package. The Farmington Library will be holding activities for youngsters Saturdays in February. February 9th, children can stop by the Library and make a Valentine. On the 16th, the Sunflour Bakehaus will host the Library's activity and kids will make heart crafts and listen to stories. Lastly, on Saturday, February 23rd, the Library will be the place for the youngsters to make poetry pockets. "My Heart's In Downtown Farmington" will be fun for the whole family. As you can see by the pictures, the Purple Building has been busy! Move over elves, Eclectic Elegance is taking over. That is 220 cubic feet of packing peanuts, if you're counting. We have been shipping gift baskets throughout the United States over the last three weeks. Corporate and personal gift baskets were in high demand this season. Our biggest seller was our "Made in Michigan" basket which is pictured on our web site. Californians, Texans, and Floridians are just a few people who received a taste of Michigan in the mail this past month.

Remember, Eclectic Elegance ships your basket orders ALL year round. Christmas isn't the only time a basket is appropriate. This week we are delivering baskets to wish lucky recipients "Happy New Year" and " Happy Five years with the Company".

We also love to create centerpieces and favors for wedding and baby showers and birthday parties. Do you have a celebration that needs our eclectic touch?

Thank you for making "Glow" a tremendous success! We had a great time last Friday night and Downtown Farmington was hopping all weekend long. It was so nice to see so many of you in the Purple Building and strolling Grand River. What a great way to kickoff the holiday season.

During "Glow", local author, Scott Seegert, signed the night away. You could hear people chuckling as they left the store reading Scott's very humorous book, "It's a Guy Thing". We have copies of the book for sale at Eclectic Elegance and it makes a great gift idea for Dad! Also, Tim Spellman created one of a kind caricatures all evening to the delight of youngsters from 9 to 99.

A special "Thank You" to our helpful elves for placing over 400!!! luminaries along Grand River in the bitter cold. Our carolers sounded beautiful as they entertained us all with the songs of the season.

Eclectic Elegance is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As a Christmas bonus to you, we are open Sundays in December from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come on in and get all of your holiday shopping done! We had a great time at the watercolor class held last Saturday. Kathleen was wonderful and each of her students painted a masterpiece. Watch out Picasso!

This Thursday, November 15th, is the last chance to take Heidi's outdoor container class. Our master gardener will fill Eclectic Elegance with plants, greens, and dirt while she instructs us on how to create a beautiful, living arrangement perfect for the holiday season. Avoid the mall Thanksgiving weekend and come on into Farmington. Downtown Farmington will once again be the sight for Holly Day, Saturday, December 1st. The Pavilion will be filled with greens, chestnuts, and guests from the North Pole. Eclectic Elegance will have an open house beginning at 10:00 a.m. with specials throughout the Purple Building.

We are going to keep you busy this holiday season with several special events and classes. On Thursday, November 8th, Eclectic Elegance will be at the Holiday Shopping Expo being held at the Farmington Hills Costick Center. Over 60 merchants and crafters will have their wares displayed for convenient holiday shopping. The event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Look for us this Thursday!

Saturday's beginning watercolor class is almost full. This is your chance to learn the basics of watercolors by local artist Kathleen Spellman. "Autumn Goose", pictured, is one of Kathleen's latest masterpieces. All materials will be supplied and this four hour class begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th. On Sunday, November 11th, we will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. while we host an Arbonne Open House. If you have ever wanted to sample the incredible Arbonne products, now is your chance. We had a great time during Kathleen Spellman's open house last Friday. Kathleen, pictured center, was all smiles as you can see! Her watercolors are incredible and she unveiled ten new paintings that evening. If you missed out on the reception, we have great news for you. Kathleen's art work is always available at Eclectic Elegance. We carry her note cards, 2008 calendars, prints, and originals throughout the year. Kathleen's artwork is just another example of the unique gift items we have at the Purple Building.

Perhaps you have always wanted to dabble in watercolors, well now is your chance. Kathleen will be here Saturday, November 10th, teaching a beginning watercolor class. The four hour class begins at 10:00 a.m. and all materials will be supplied. Our favorite painter will teach you the basic techniques of watercolors and help you create a masterpiece! Speaking of creativity, our Holiday Gift Tag and Card Class is this Saturday, November 3rd. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at noon, this class is sure to please. Jana, our teacher, will show us how to make our own gift tags and cards just in time for the upcoming holidays. All materials will be supplied and you will walk away with several completed projects. The fee for this terrific class is $25.00.

Our last class for the season is our Winter Container Class to be held Thursday, November 15th. Heidi Cook of Liberty Street Gardens will teach us how to plant an outdoor pot perfect for the upcoming holidays. If you are entertaining this season, join us for this informative (and dirty) class. Please bring a pot suitable for the Michigan outdoors that is less than 12" in diameter. (There is a price adjustment for larger pots). Your cost of $45.00 includes the soil and plants that will make your porch or patio bursting with holiday cheer.

On Thursday, November 8th, Eclectic Elegance will be participating in the Holiday Shopping Expo held at the Costick Activities Center in Farmington Hills. This annual event is a great way to shop as 50 local merchants and crafters are all in one location. There is no entrance fee for the event and the fun begins at 5:00 p.m. and lasts until 8:00 p.m. While at the Shopping Expo, make sure to say "HI" to us at our booth.

We would like you to mark your calendars for two special events in downtown Farmington. On Friday, November 30th, Farmington merchants will be having the first annual GLOW. Downtown Farmington will be twinkling with lights this special evening and the sounds of the holidays will fill the streets. Participating stores and restaurants will have special activities throughout the night. Scott Seegert, local author, will have a book signing and Tim Spellman will be drawing caricatures here at Eclectic Elegance beginning at 6:00 p.m. We will have more information in the upcoming Blogs, but we know this will be a special evening for downtown Farmington.

The holiday fun will continue on Saturday, December 1st as Holly Day activities commence. The Pavilion will be filled with holiday greens for sale from local vendors. Santa Claus will make a visit and several Farmington merchants will have special events in their stores. Did we mention the LIVE REINDEER that will be strolling down Grand River! We are so very excited and honored to have an open house for Kathleen Spellman this Friday, October 26th. Kathleen is a Farmington artist who paints absolutely stunning watercolors. We have her work in Eclectic Elegance all year round and she participated in our Artisans Off The Avenue during Founder's Festival. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, you can meet Kathleen while viewing all of her artwork. She will unveil ten new original watercolor paintings! It is going to be a great, intimate evening of food, drink, conversation, and art.

Hot off the press! Mark your calendars for two special events taking place in downtown Farmington during the holidays. On Friday, November 30th, downtown Farmington merchants will be open until 9:00 p.m. to make your holiday shopping easy and convenient. Join us for our first annual "Glow" event. Farmington restaurants, salons, and gift shops will have special events throughout the evening. Eclectic Elegance will have Scott Seegert, a local author, signing his book "It's A Guy Thing". Tim Spellman will also be here drawing his one of a kind caricatures of you and/or your family! Pages, Cedar Grill, and Cowleys will offer specials before and during the event so you don't go hungry. Carolers will be strolling the streets to entertain you with their holiday sounds. The streets of Farmington will be aGLOW with holiday lights. "Glow" is a great way to kick off the holidays while enjoying downtown Farmington.

After visiting Farmington in the evening, come back the very next day, Saturday, December 1st for Holly Day. Farmington will be bustling with LIVE reindeer, vendors, and a few folks from the North Pole. Merchants at the Pavilion will be selling holiday greens: roping, wreaths, and trees. Chestnuts will be roasting, carolers will be singing, and Santa's belly will be shaking! Eclectic Elegance is hosting an open house that Saturday so come on in to the Purple Building for holiday treats and specials!

Remember, we have three classes during the month of November. On Saturday, November 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., we will have our Holiday Gift Tag class. This is a wonderful way to personalize all of your holiday gifts. We will be creating beautiful one of a kind tags and cards. All materials will be supplied and the cost of the class is $25.00. If you can cut paper with a pair of scissors then you will have a great time at this class! (Honest!)

Kathleen Spellman will teach you the basics of watercolors on Saturday, November 10th. This four hour class begins at 10:00 a.m. and all materials will be supplied. Was your last painting experience in kindergarden with finger paints or when you painted the living room? Perhaps you have dabbled in actual watercolors and need just a little reminder. No matter your experience, this class is for you. Don't be afraid, join us for a great class.

And back by popular demand... Heidi Cook from Liberty Street Gardens will be here for a fall outdoor container class on Thursday, November 15th. Bring a pot suitable for the Michigan outdoors and less than 12" in diameter. Heidi will supply the rest. As the entertaining season approaches, this is a great way to decorate your entrance way to welcome your guests. Your arrangement will last throughout December and be a perfect way to make your home look festive.

Mid October? How did that happen? The holidays are QUICKLY approaching and Eclectic Elegance will help you with all of your decorating and gift giving needs. Kathleen will also be teaching a beginning watercolor class here at Eclectic Elegance on Saturday, November 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Don't be scared, Kathleen will teach you the basic techniques of this art form and supply the canvas, paints, and brushes. The cost for this class is $65.00.

We will have two other classes in November to wrap up our fall class schedule. You don't want to miss our November 3rd class where we will make customized and unique holiday gift tags and cards. As you can see by the pictures, we had an awesome time during our fundraiser for the Three Day Walk. We would like to thank all of you who came to Eclectic Elegance last Friday and to those of you who graciously donated to Karen's walk. We can not thank Karen enough for her dedication, time, and effort! She begins her 60 mile walk this Friday at 6:00 a.m. in Farmington Hills. She, along with thousands of others, will walk in the effort to raise money and awareness in the battle against breast cancer. That is Karen holding the vase with Donna, a volunteer at last year's San Diego Three Day Walk. Barbara and Kathleen, also pictured, were happy to participate in our event. They were still smiling when they left for they each won a raffle item during the fundraiser! Way to go, ladies! Help us support a great cause this Friday, September 21st, by joining us for our Three Day Walk fundraiser starting at 6:30 p.m. At the end of this month, Karen Wilkins will be walking 60 miles in three days. She would love your support and well-wishes. Your ten dollar donation at the door goes directly to Karen's walk. We will have raffles and in store specials throughout the evening. A massage therapist will also be here to rub your cares away. This would be a great evening to spend with your girlfriends, sisters, mother, or come and meet new friends! Hello! We hope you are enjoying the cooler temperatures. It does smell and feel like fall. We have our fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving goodies out and ready for you. If you need a hostess gift for your upcoming holiday parties, look no further than the Purple Building.

We have three events this September in our ClubHouse. This Thursday, September 13th, is our fall container class. We would like to thank all of you who voted for Eclectic Elegance in Channel 4's "Best Of" contest. We won't know the official results for a few days but we already feel like winners! Your support and kind words were awesome and very touching. We love our customers!

As you can see by the picture above, the Purple Building is ready for fall. Our Halloween and Thanksgiving goodies are now on display and ready to find a new home. We have figurines, soaps, candles, and plates that will make perfect decorations for the upcoming season. These treats also make great gifts.

We have several ClubHouse classes this fall. The September 13th container class and the October 18th knitting class are quickly filling up so don't delay. Our ClubHouse class schedule is complete. We have something for everyone this fall. On Thursday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m., Heidi from Liberty Street Gardens will demonstrate how to plant a fall container perfect for the outdoors. Just because the temperatures will be dropping doesn't mean your yard can't continue to look great. Please bring a container suitable for the outdoors and less than 12" in diameter. We will supply the rest. The cost for this class is $45.00.

The fundraiser for the Michigan Three Day Walk will be Friday, September 21st beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is an absolutely PERFECT way to spend an evening with the girls! Bring a group of girlfriends, daughters, sisters, moms... and join the fun. All of your $10.00 donation will help support our friend, Karen, as she walks 60 miles in three days. Her tremendous "feat" will help raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. There will be food, beverages, raffles, and in store specials. If you wear pink that night, you will receive a door prize. Come join us as we raise money for a wonderful cause.

We will end September with a wreath making class on Thursday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. The cost for this class is $45.00 and includes a grapevine wreath, ribbon, silk and dried flowers, and other embellishments that will make your wreath a one-of-a-kind. You may want to bring an empty wine bottle and some corks for a more Tuscan flavored wreath. Please bring a glue gun if you have one.

We know you have "always wanted to learn how to knit" so on October 18th we are having a knitting class. This $25.00 class includes yarn, needles, knitting bag, and a fun hands-on experience. Jodi, our teacher, is excellent (and patient!). Think of the projects you could complete in time for holiday gift giving.

On Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m., paper, scissors, and glue will be flying! All the supplies will be here so that you can make your own holiday cards and gift tags. These precious and cheerful cards are guaranteed to make your holiday gift giving personalized and special. Our teacher, Jana, is unbelievably creative and you will walk away with several completed projects. The cost for this class is $25.00. With the rainy weather the past few days, it feels like a Tuesday in the fall, not August! But as the summer marches on, so are the happenings at Eclectic Elegance.

Too many of us are directly affected by breast cancer. On Friday, September 21st, Eclectic Elegance will proudly host a fundraiser for the Michigan Breast Cancer Three Day Walk. Our new shipment of UglyDolls will be arriving within the week. There are new additions to the Ugly family. They are so Ugly, they're cute! Cherry Republic products have just arrived. PBS came to the Purple Building last week and "shot" footage of our store. We will be part of a show that spotlights Farmington. Could this be our 15 minutes of fame?

The Pavilion has been filled with concert goers all summer and this is your last chance to see a FREE concert by talented local artists. Wow!!!! What a great weekend we had during the Founders Festival. We saw all kinds of familiar (and smiling) faces. Thank you for joining us, showing your support, and partaking in a great Farmington tradition. Word on the street says the Festival was a huge success. We know Eclectic Elegance was hopping the whole weekend. We met new friends and reconnected with so many of you. Again, thank you.

Speaking of thanks, we would like to thank all the artisans who helped make our first "Artisans Off The Avenue" a great event. All of the artists had lovely displays of their work and showed off their talents throughout the weekend. Patrons were able to get up close and personal with Dave "our" potter, Kathy "our" painter, and Whitney "our" glass bead maker. Tim Spellman was busy creating awesome caricatures and YaYa Bags, Leah, and Fairy Buttons had a beautiful array of original artwork. Remember, we have a large selection of the artists' work in Eclectic Elegance all year round. Information regarding any of the artists and their work can be found by calling us at 248-478-7220.

Well, if you can believe it, we are busy creating the fall ClubHouse class schedule. Don't forget that every Saturday in August we will be cropping from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All levels of scrapbookers are welcome. On Thursday, September 13th, Heidi Cook of Liberty Street Gardens will teach a fall outdoor container class. This is a great class that will teach you how to plant and maintain a beautiful potted arrangement perfect for the fall season. Heidi has great tips and ideas and this is always a popular class. Speaking of demand, Jodi will be back on Thursday, October 18th to teach another knitting class. This class is for beginners and those of us who may need a little reminder. Jodi's teaching skills make this a very informative and fun class. Times and prices for the fall container and knitting classes are yet to be determined; but you can start marking your calendars with the dates. We will have more information in upcoming weekly Blogs so check us out every Tuesday at www.eclecticelegance.com! Our Girls Night Out scheduled for August 24th has been postponed. We can't believe it but the Founders Festival is here! For months we have been talking about and preparing for the three day event and this weekend it begins! Wow!

Actually, there are festivities beginning on Thursday, July 19th. The "Bingo Tent" will be located in the parking lot directly east of Eclectic Elegance and the winning begins at 5:00 p.m. Thursday. "Alley Regalley" will begin serving delicious food Thursday at 5:00 p.m. as well. You have to taste the food, listen to the live entertainment, and enjoy the atmosphere at this outdoor venue directly across the street from our Purple Building. We will be open Thursday night until 9:00 p.m. and will continue to have extended hours throughout the weekend.

Eclectic Elegance will have specials throughout the store. For example, are you in the mood for the holidays? We will have "Christmas in July" all weekend. We are pulling out the trees, santas, and holly so you can enjoy discounted Christmas items. Fa La La La La!

The "Artisans Off The Avenue" will be ready to roll on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Visit the local artists that grace our store all year round. This is a great opportunity to visit with the people that create the works of art. You can even see them demonstrate their crafts throughout the weekend. Due to the Founders Festival's numerous art fairs, Farmington Road will be closed starting Thursday, July 19th until Sunday, July 22nd. Grand River will close during the parade that begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. There is a shuttle bus that will run throughout the weekend. Welcome to our weekly Blog. Thanks for taking time to find out about all of the "good stuff" going on at the Purple Building. For example, these pictures show our new selection of greeting cards. We hope you have our site bookmarked and don't forget to tell your friends about Eclectic Elegance and our new website!

Friday, July 13th, Eclectic Elegance will be open until 7:30 p.m. Another Friday night concert will be held at the Pavilion in downtown Farmington. The concerts have been very well received and FREE!!!! Stop into the store and say "Hi" as you head to the Pavilion to enjoy the sounds of the Detroit Choral Artists.

Eclectic Elegance loves working with individuals and/or corporations. We recently worked with a local bank that visited our website and saw our "Food Pyramid" arrangement. They called Eclectic Elegance and wanted us to customize the basket for a group of their employees. We listened to their requests (more chips and salsa!) and shipped eight baskets to a hotel in Washington, D.C. where the bank's training seminar was being held. We would love to customize an order for you, no matter the size of the basket or the quantity you may need. Give us a call!

The ClubHouse is in full swing this summer. We will have a children's ceramics class in July (please see our June 16th post for more information). Also, every Saturday in August our doors will be open for scrapbookers! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced cropper, we have the space for you. On Friday, August 24th, we will be having a "Girls Night Out". A certified massage therapist will be here to soothe your mind, body, and soul. Come with a group of ladies and you all can enjoy an evening out while partaking in food, drink, and fun. This is a great way to shake up "bunco" night, celebrate a birthday, or just meet new people. Hello! We hope you had a great holiday. Let's get you caught up on the latest news from Eclectic Elegance.

Eclectic Elegance will be open Mondays in July from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Come on into the Purple Building and do your summer shopping six days a week! As an added bonus, this Friday, July 6th, we will be open until 7:30 p.m. The Sundquist Pavilion in downtown Farmington will be the site of another free Friday night concert. On your way to see the band "Truth" perform their world funk fusion, stop by and visit Eclectic Elegance.

Remember, Eclectic Elegance creates one of a kind party and shower favors. We love customizing the gifts for your guests and the centerpieces for your tables. In the past we have made favors and centerpieces for a baby shower with a jungle theme and a birthday party with a made in Michigan flavor. You come up with the event, we will come up with the gifts. Is someone giving YOU a party? Let us help you create a beautiful thank you gift for the host or hostess. Gift giving is easy when you use Eclectic Elegance.

The Founders Festival is July 20th through 22nd and quickly approaching. With the theme of "In The Good Old Summertime", there is bound to be tons of fun! Our "Artisans Off The Avenue" will open Friday, July 20th at 10:00 a.m. and run throughout the weekend. Our white canopies will be filled with local artists and their wares. Eclectic Elegance will have extended hours all weekend so there will be plenty of time for you to shop the Purple Building and visit with the artists while they demonstrate their crafts.

Saturdays in August the ClubHouse will be open for scrapbooking. The crop sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run through 4:00 p.m. each Saturday in August. Hello and happy Tuesday! Thank you for visiting our weekly Blog that will keep you informed of the "happenings" here at the Purple Building. We are planning to run specials only available on our Blog. Make sure you bookmark us so every Tuesday you can read the new "ClubHouse Chatter". Tell a friend and let them in on the secret.

Another Friday night concert will be held on June 29th at the Sundquist Pavilion (one block east of us). We will be open until 7:30 pm that night so stop in as you head to the concert. This week's entertainment is the Raisin Pickers. Just based on the name you have to come see them! They are a string band... banjos, fiddles, and mandolins that will get your toes-a-tappin.

We are counting down to the opening day of the Farmington Founders Festival (24 days). Eclectic Elegance is so excited about this annual festival and this year's theme is "In the Good Old Summertime". Come on down to Grand River and Farmington Road and enjoy traveling quartets, a carousel ride, and some good old fashion FUN! Please come visit Eclectic Elegance that weekend and take advantage of our in-store specials. Our parking lot will be the home of "Artisans Off The Avenue". The local artists that are represented in our store all year round will have booths filled with their artwork. This is a great chance to meet the artists and see them demonstrate their craft. For example, Kathleen Spellman will be working on one of her beautiful watercolors, Dave Albrecht will have his potter's wheel twirling, and Whitney Shuck will be creating glasswork (torch and all). The festivities begin Friday, July 20th at 10:00 am and run through Sunday, July 22nd.

Remember, the ClubHouse is open this summer. We have two classes scheduled. An all day crop will be held on Saturday, June 30th and a two part children's ceramic class begins Wednesday, July 25th. Please see our June 16th Blog for more details or just call us at 248-478-7220.

You asked, we listened! Due to your comments and suggestions, Eclectic Elegance has expanded our greeting card selection. We now have a wide range of styles and sentiments that will compliment any gift. So now you really can get all of your gift giving needs solved right in the Purple Building. If you want funny and crazy, may we suggest a MikWright greeting? Our Little Fish cards have inspirational and beautiful verses that match the stunning photographs on the cover of the card. Because we love to be "Eclectic", we have a lovely selection of hand made cards that you won't see anywhere else. So if you need to send someone a greeting, look no further than Eclectic Elegance.

We have been very busy this June sending graduation and Father's Day gifts ACROSS THE COUNTRY! There is a little Eclectic Elegance spread throughout the United States this month. Most of the arrangements have been customized based on our customer's request. Perfect! That is what we love to do here. Our web site can also show you some of our more popular styles that are ready to go. However, we can even tweak those baskets to fit your needs.

The ClubHouse is open this summer as we have two classes scheduled. Saturday, June 30 we will be hosting an all day crop for scrapbookers. You don't need any experience to join us for this day. Starting at 10am and running until 4pm, we will have the tables out and the creativity flowing! Come join us and share your memories and materials and crop, crop, crop. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided and the cost $15.00. Call 248-478-7220 today to reserve your spot.

Our local potter, Dave Albrecht will be teaching another children's ceramic class. Last summer's class was so successful we had to do this one again. This is a TWO part class: Wednesday, July 25 from 10am to 12 pm and Wednesday, August 1 from 10am to 12pm. The cost is $50.00 for the TWO part class and all materials will be supplied. During the first class, Dave will teach the kids the basics of ceramics and then let the young artists loose. The novice sculptors will be able to create their own coil and pinch pots and also do some free style artwork. During the second class the clay pieces will be glazed and given their final touches. Due to the nature of this class, we ask the child be at least 7 years old and a $20.00 non-refundable deposit is required when signing up for this class. This July 20-22 is the Farmington Founder's Festival and this year's theme is "Good Old Summertime Fun". There are a tremendous amount of fun activities planned throughout the city that weekend so make sure to partake! Please join Eclectic Elegance and our "Artisans Off The Avenue". We are so excited for this! We are going to have two large canopies in our parking lot and this will be the home for our local artists that are represented in our store all year long. You will be able to visit with the artists, purchase their pieces under the tents, and even watch as they demonstrate their craft. For example, Kathleen Spellman will be painting a masterpiece, Dave Albrecht will be creating artwork on the potter's wheel, and Whitney Schuck will give glass making demonstations (blow torch and all)! Welcome to our new web site! We hope you find it useful and informative- even FUN! Nancy and I would like to thank Tom Makowski at Graphics Department, Inc. for his creativity, patience, and hard work. His company is based in Troy, Michigan and they specialize in developing web sites and other marketing techniques. If ever you need help with a new web site, he is your guy! We are hoping our "Blogs" are a way to share information with you. Our blog will be a super way to spotlight our new products or special occasions we have at the store. We may even share a great recipe (more than likely it is from Nancy's kitchen not mine!) or inform you of a local artist (see below). Keep checking our web site so that you will be "IN THE KNOW". June is a busy gift giving month and Eclectic Elegance can help. The end of the school year is near and we have a variety of gifts and arrangements that are perfect for your favorite teacher. Spring recitals, concerts, and programs mark the end of a year of hard work for students of all ages. For example, do you know a youngster in an upcoming dance recital? Don't forget Dad!!!! Sunday, June 17 is Father's Day and Eclectic Elegance can help you get the perfect gift for Good Old Dad. Also, our local potter, Dave Albrecht, recently created a beautiful array of pots, platters, and vases and we have them all! His artwork makes a great gift for Dad, grad, or YOU!

May we suggest bringing the family to the Farmington Farmers Market? The season opens on Saturday, May 12 at the Walter E. Sundquist Pavilion. Each Saturday from 9am to 2pm, local farmers sell an incredible array of fresh grown fruits and vegetables. Beautiful flowers and plants of all varieties are also available at great prices. Local artisans and bakeries also sell their unique wares and treats. Spend the day in downtown Farmington shopping at Eclectic Elegance, visiting the Farmers Market, and dining at one of Farmington's "tasty" restaurants. Our purple building is just a short walk west of the Farmers Market so stop on by!

Speaking of artists, our good friend and wonderful local artist, Kathleen Spellman, has her artwork displayed at Lily's Seafood in downtown Royal Oak. If you haven't had the pleasure of viewing Kathleen's watercolors, now is your chance (and have a great dinner). Don't forget, Kathleen's artwork is always available at Eclectic Elegance. We have her note cards, calendars, prints, and framed paintings throughout our store. Both Nancy and I have a few of her pieces hanging in our homes! Kathleen's nature scenes are gorgeous and no one captures the beauty of a flower garden like she does.
